Erzurum road project to reduce travel distance by 55 kilometers

Construction is underway on a 17.5 kilometer group road in the Tekman district of Erzurum, Turkey, which is expected to reduce the travel distance between Tekman and Çat from 140 kilometers to 85 kilometers.

The project, described by locals as reviving a connection dating back approximately 150 years to the Russian era, will benefit between 30 and 35 villages and neighborhoods. Once completed, the new route is intended to provide safer, more efficient transportation, lowering logistics costs and improving emergency access for the region.

Turnagöl Neighborhood Head Hakan Karagöl stated that the project was initiated following instructions from Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, who had previously promised support during his tenure as Erzurum Governor. Karagöl emphasized that the road is a state service rather than a partisan political project.
