Erzurum students qualify for 2027 Regeneron ISEF

Students from the Remzi Sakaoğlu Science and Art Center in Erzurum have qualified to participate in the 2027 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). The achievement follows their success at the 57th High School Students Research Projects Competition organized by TÜBİTAK BİDEB.

Under the guidance of STEM teacher Mustafa Akay, students İrfan Sefiloğlu and İrem Alparslan developed a specialized hydrogel and bandage that utilizes the tissue-regenerating properties of spider venom. The project aims to provide an innovative solution for treating pressure sores, a significant health issue for bedridden patients.

The experimental and technical analyses for the project were conducted at Atatürk University’s East Anatolia High Technology Application and Research Center (DAYTAM), with academic guidance from Associate Professors Nihal Şimşek and Ferhunde Aysin.
