Erzurum's Kazım Karabekir Stadium cleared for full-capacity use after earthquake upgrades
Following the February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake, the Kazım Karabekir Stadium in Erzurum was closed to the public and operated at limited capacity. The Erzurum Governorate announced that a year‑long technical assessment, structural health monitoring, and reinforcement program—coordinated by Dr. Dilek Okuyucu of Erzurum Technical University—has been completed. Repairs included steel roof maintenance, reinforcement of load‑bearing elements, concrete wall strengthening, and installation of protective barriers, all evaluated against current seismic codes.
The final inspection deemed all four stands safe for full‑capacity spectator admission. The stadium is now prepared to host upcoming Süper Lig matches, including an early‑season game against Galatasaray, with full crowds expected.
