Es Puig den Canals archaeological site faces vandalism

The Es Puig den Canals archaeological site, a significant prehistoric settlement in the Sóller Valley, is facing degradation due to vandalism and littering. As a site belonging to the Talayotic culture, it is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Asset of Cultural Interest), yet it currently lacks physical protection or fencing.

This lack of security has allowed unauthorized access, leading to the site being used for nocturnal gatherings. Consequently, the area is frequently littered with bottles, cans, and plastic. Local municipal authorities must perform periodic cleaning and maintenance to repair damage caused by improper use. Experts have previously highlighted the need for better signage, surveillance, and conservation measures to protect this Iron Age settlement.
