Esbjergværket demolition targets 99 percent waste recycling

Demolition work has begun at Esbjergværket, a large-scale project aimed at recycling up to 99 percent of construction waste. The process involves dismantling an underground seawater channel, a 250-meter-high chimney, and a 74-meter-high boiler building.

Heavy machinery, including a 100-ton Caterpillar 395, is being used to crush concrete on-site to be reused as a final ground layer. To handle the demolition of the iconic chimney, P. Olesen has hired Italian specialist DESPE. The project focuses on source-sorting materials like metal and concrete to ensure high rates of direct reuse and recycling.
