Escaped Lynx Sought in Haltern am See Wildlife Park, Hunters Assist Search
A male lynx has escaped from the Naturwildpark Granat in Haltern am See, a wildlife park in the northern Ruhr region of Germany. The park operator, Holger Beckmann, said the animal slipped out at the end of July, but no hole in the fence was found and the exact method of escape remains unclear. The female lynx remains alone in the enclosure.
Beckmann is calling on regional hunters to report any sightings. He explained that the lynx could be captured with a tranquilizer or a live trap, but only if the animal stays in a consistent area, as it tends to move widely. He reassured the public that lynxes are harmless to people. The park recalls a similar incident in 2019 when a lynx escaped, was later found in Bochum, and was tranquilized after a hunter and his dogs coaxed it onto a tree.
