Escorpiones de Belén promoted to Costa Rica's Primera División
Escorpiones de Belén secured promotion to the Costa Rican Primera División, filling the vacancy left by Municipal Liberia and avoiding a relegation playoff. Club president Juan España said the ascent rewards the work done since the club’s foundation in July 2021 and marks the start of a tougher challenge to stay in the top tier.
Júnior Díaz was appointed head coach, assisted by Ricardo Arguedas and goalkeeper coach Patrick Pemberton, with Enrique García as video analyst. The squad will retain most of its core players while adding newcomers such as Elián Morales and Waylon Francis. The team’s first‑division debut is scheduled against Asociación Deportiva San Carlos, followed by a match versus Alajuelense. Díaz expressed mixed emotions about the rapid rise and the expectations ahead.
