Escucha thermal power plant faces legal battles to prevent demolition
Efforts are underway to prevent the demolition of the Escucha thermal power plant in Teruel, Spain, through legal and administrative challenges. The political group Teruel Existe has announced it will file an administrative appeal against the decision by the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage to deny the plant protection status. The group is requesting a suspension of all demolition activities until the site's industrial and historical value can be fully reviewed.
Simultaneously, the Association of Public Action for the Defense of Aragonese Heritage (APUDEPA) has taken legal action against the Escucha City Council. APUDEPA is demanding that the municipality uphold the urban planning protections currently assigned to the plant under the Simplified General Urban Development Plan (PGOU). The association argues that the plant is listed as an architectural asset with structural protection and is seeking access to administrative files to ensure any demolition licenses comply with municipal planning laws.
