Escuinapa: Armed attack on student bus leaves driver injured

An armed group attacked a public transport bus carrying approximately 30 students in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood of Escuinapa, Sinaloa, on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The vehicle was traveling the El Robalito–Escuinapa route, transporting middle school, high school, and university students.

The driver, identified as Hugo ‘N’, 56, sustained a minor injury from glass shrapnel during the assault. Despite the attack, he managed to accelerate the vehicle and drive to a military checkpoint in the Puente de la Veracruz sector to seek immediate assistance. The students were able to disembark safely at the checkpoint, though several experienced nervous breakdowns due to the violence.

The Sinaloa Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) stated that the attack appeared to be directed at the driver. An inter-institutional security group has deployed operations in the area to locate the perpetrators, who fled the scene. Authorities reported that the situation is currently under control and preventive patrols have been increased in the municipality.
