Escuinapa Civil Protection coordinator assassinated in Sinaloa

Jesús Francisco López Bibriesca, the Civil Protection coordinator for Escuinapa, Sinaloa, was assassinated on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The attack occurred in the downtown area of the municipality, specifically at the intersection of Melchor Ocampo and Francisco Pérez streets.

López Bibriesca was traveling in a private vehicle when armed individuals intercepted him and opened fire. Reports indicate he sustained a gunshot wound to the head, resulting in his death. Emergency responders from the Red Cross arrived at the scene but were unable to revive him. Authorities recovered 9mm shell casings at the site of the shooting.

The assassination took place while the official was actively engaged in emergency preparations for Hurricane Simón. Hours before the attack, he had been conducting inspections of vulnerable areas, supervising temporary shelters, and overseeing the cleaning of channels and waterways to mitigate potential flooding.

Local Mayor Víctor Díaz Simental confirmed the death and noted the official's recent involvement in disaster prevention activities. While municipal, state, and military forces have deployed operations to search for the perpetrators, no suspects have been detained, and the motive for the killing remains unconfirmed.
