Guatemala police arrest three men posing as investigators in Escuintla

Guatemalan authorities have arrested three men in Escuintla for allegedly attempting to kidnap a 50-year-old man by impersonating National Civil Police (PNC) investigators. The incident occurred near the kilometer 53.5 mark on the old Palín-Escuintla route.

The suspects used a recent model pickup truck and carried falsified arrest warrants to justify the detention. They also wore clothing and insignia similar to those used by official PNC investigators. The victim was able to seek help from patrolling officers, who intervened and secured his safety.

The detainees have been identified as Ramón “N” (50), Antonio “N” (43), and a Colombian national known as Jhon Fredy Torres, alias “Comandante” (50). Authorities seized items from the vehicle including balaclavas, handcuffs, and forged documents. Investigators believe the motive was to hold the man against his will to demand a ransom from his family.
