Turkey reports surge in domestic violence and femicide incidents

Multiple incidents of domestic violence, stalking, and femicide have been reported across various regions in Turkey.

In Mardin, two separate tragedies occurred: a man was arrested after his wife, Bedriye Naz, died following a fall from a fifth-floor balcony, and another man was detained for allegedly stabbing his bedridden wife, Asya Ç, to death in Nusaybin.

In Antalya, a 71-year-old woman, Nazmiye T., reported being threatened for the tenth time by her husband, Ayhan T., despite existing protection orders. The suspect reportedly attempted to set fire to their home and later used a hatchet to break down a door.

In Istanbul, several cases of harassment and violence were documented. In Esenyurt, a man used a scooter to target an ex-partner's residence, breaking windows and setting fire to the building entrance. In Maltepe, a woman accused her husband of blackmail and sharing private images. Additionally, an academic in Istanbul received a three-month restraining order against an ex-partner following allegations of persistent stalking and blackmail involving university officials.

Victims in these cases have reported continuous threats to their lives, leading some families to abandon their homes for safety.
