Roblox users warned of scams promising free Robux
Cybersecurity firm ESET and Roblox have issued warnings regarding scams targeting users—particularly children and adolescents—who seek free Robux, the platform's virtual currency. Scammers utilize various methods, including fake ‘Robux generators’ that request usernames, deceptive surveys designed to harvest personal information, and phishing pages that mimic official Roblox login sites to hijack accounts or distribute malware.
Experts emphasize the distinction between ‘free’ and ‘earned’ currency. While there are no legitimate codes, tricks, or free subscription offers, users can earn Robux through official channels. These include legitimate programs from Roblox or trusted partners like Microsoft, as well as monetizing original content through the Creator Store, selling avatar items on the Marketplace, or managing subscriptions and private servers.
Mario Micucci, a cybersecurity researcher at ESET Latin America, noted that Roblox explicitly states, “There is no such thing as free Robux or subscription offers, tricks or codes.”
