ESG principles drive global corporate reporting and regulatory shifts
Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are increasingly becoming a central component of corporate strategy and regulatory compliance globally. In the United Arab Emirates, the Securities and Commodities Authority, Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, and Dubai Financial Market have raised disclosure expectations, making ESG a board-level priority for local organizations.
On a global scale, the rise of ESG is driven by significant investor demand from major asset managers such as BlackRock, Vanguard, and State Street, as well as a shifting workforce where younger generations prioritize sustainability. Regulatory frameworks are also tightening, including the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and emerging rules from the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
To manage these requirements, organizations are utilizing various reporting frameworks such as GRI, SASB, TCFD, CDP, and IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards to track metrics including emissions, energy use, workforce diversity, and governance.
