ESG reporting declines on the Warsaw Stock Exchange

ESG reporting among companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange has seen a significant decline. According to an analysis by Grant Thornton, only 102 out of 407 listed companies prepared ESG reports for 2025, representing 25% of the analyzed group. This is a notable decrease from the previous year, when 154 companies (38%) published such reports.

This decline is primarily attributed to regulatory changes, including the ‘Stop the Clock’ mechanism which shifted reporting deadlines for certain entities. While some companies opted not to report due to these changes, others completed reports due to work already in progress. The auditing market remains concentrated, with PwC, Grant Thornton, and BDO handling the majority of ESG report audits.

Beyond reporting frequency, businesses face structural challenges. A report by CRIF and the Polish Chamber of Commerce indicates that while 68% of companies collect non-financial information, only 15% have a dedicated ESG data department. The primary barrier identified is not a lack of data, but issues regarding data quality, completeness, and accessibility across fragmented systems. Experts suggest the focus is shifting from mere regulatory compliance toward using ESG data for risk management and strategic business decisions.
