České Budějovice adds fire‑brigade water tank to street‑spraying effort

Faced with extreme summer temperatures, the South Bohemian city of České Budějovice has expanded its street‑cooling program. In addition to three municipal spray trucks, the city now uses a high‑capacity water tank operated by the South Bohemian Fire Brigade to mist the most crowded areas, delivering 80,000–100,000 litres of water each day.

The initiative is part of a broader regional response to the heat wave. Nearby towns such as Tábor, Milevsko and Písek are also adopting measures ranging from tree planting and rain‑water retention to limited street‑spraying and irrigation of public green spaces. Municipal officials stress that while spray‑water provides immediate relief, long‑term solutions focus on increasing urban greenery and water storage.

City officials, including Deputy Mayor Michal Šebek and FCC director Roman Braný, highlighted the combined effort of municipal services and the fire brigade as a way to make the city more tolerable during the heat spell, while acknowledging the high water consumption involved.
