České Budějovice hosts community dance project

The participatory project ‘Tanec pro moje město’ (Dance for My City) is entering its third year as part of the ‘Community for My City’ program for České Budějovice, which is preparing to serve as the European Capital of Culture in 2028.

On September 11, the project will hold workshops and a public flashmob at the Šumava housing estate. The event aims to connect diverse groups, including Roma children from the Máj estate, local dance schools, and folklore ensembles. The choreography was developed over several months through collaboration with Roma children, focusing on their personal stories, experiences, and perceptions of their environment rather than technical dance performance.

The project is organized in cooperation with the organization ROMa as part of the international ‘Magic Carpets’ initiative. The final performance will feature various dance groups adapting the shared choreography to their own specific styles.
