České Budějovice: Man charged with murdering wife on cycle path

Police in České Budějovice have charged a 60-year-old man with the murder of his wife following a violent attack on a cycle path near the Jirásek dam. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon in the center of the city.

Investigators state the attack was premeditated and motivated by jealousy, reportedly stemming from the victim finding a new partner. The victim was approximately 20 years younger than her husband. The crime was witnessed by the couple's children. Despite attempts by police to resuscitate the woman, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

Police spokesperson Jiří Matzner described the situation as a classic case of long-term partner disagreement. The suspect, who was detained shortly after the incident, faces a potential prison sentence of up to 18 years.
