České Budějovice projects face public opposition over ferry and road plans

The city of České Budějovice is reconsidering two municipal infrastructure proposals after strong local opposition. A planned self‑service ferry across the Malše at Malý jez, intended to link both sides of a popular recreation area and complete a city‑wide cycling route, sparked protests of about 150‑200 residents. City officials said the negative reaction could lead to a redesign or outright cancellation of the ferry, while the broader cycle network would still proceed.

Separately, a proposed new road through a wetland area between local ponds has drawn complaints from citizens who argue the plan would damage the environment and alter the character of the neighborhood. The municipal council is facing mounting pressure to halt or modify the road scheme.

Both projects were presented by the Budějovice council as part of wider development efforts, but community groups have organized demonstrations and demanded that the city respect public opinion before proceeding.
