Česká Lípa museum to host geological field excursion

The Museum and Gallery in Česká Lípa is organizing a field excursion on September 6, 2026, as part of the ‘Man and Stone’ exhibition program. Led by geologist and curator Petr Mužák, the tour will explore the geological history and volcanic manifestations of the Česká Lípa region.

The route covers approximately 10 km and includes sites such as the former quarry at the foot of Svárovská Hůrka, the Žizníkov hill, and the Lískový vrch vein. Participants will learn about mineralogically significant locations containing calcite and zeolite, as well as the metamorphosis of Cretaceous sediments. The excursion will conclude at an active gravel pit in Žizníkov, which features Quaternary deposits from the Middle Pleistocene.

The event is free of charge, though registration via email is required due to limited capacity. Participants are advised to wear appropriate footwear and may bring geological hammers.
