Česká Lípa reports success with door-to-door waste sorting system

The city of Česká Lípa has reported positive results following the implementation of a door-to-door waste sorting system. Launched on October 1, 2025, for the city and expanded to affiliated municipalities in June 2026, the program allows residents of family and small apartment houses to request specific bins for multi-commodity waste, paper, or bio-waste directly at their homes.

Data from the first half of 2026 indicates that the system has led to an increase of more than 350 tons of correctly sorted paper, plastic, and organic waste compared to the previous year. Simultaneously, the volume of mixed municipal waste collected in black bins has decreased. Currently, approximately half of the 3,500 eligible addresses have joined the program.

To encourage sorting, the frequency of mixed waste collection has been reduced from weekly to once every 14 days. Other collection schedules include multi-commodity waste every 21 days and paper once a month. Vice Mayor Jakub Mencl noted that the initiative aims to reduce municipal waste costs and limit the amount of waste sent to landfills, which carries rising disposal fees.
