Ankara industry poised for NATO summit opportunities

The Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) has released a report titled ‘2026 NATO Ankara Summit and the New Position of Ankara Industry: From Ownership to Capacity’ to evaluate the economic implications of the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara.

ASO President Seyit Ardıç emphasized that the summit’s impact extends beyond the announced $50 billion in new procurement plans, which represent the sum of national procurement declarations from allies rather than a single NATO budget. The report highlights a strategic shift in defense production and supply chains, moving from a focus on factory ownership to a model centered on documented production capacity and integrated production networks.

Ankara’s industrial infrastructure is positioned to benefit from this transformation. The report notes that opportunities are not limited to the defense sector; industries such as food processing, automotive sub-industry, chemicals, and packaging can also participate by adapting their production capacities to meet new international standards. To succeed, local firms are encouraged to follow a roadmap of becoming visible, entering, and eventually rising within global supply chains through rigorous documentation of their technical capabilities.
