Eskişehir court sentences teenager to 15 years for accidental death of friend

A court in Eskişehir, Turkey, has sentenced a 15-year-old boy, M. F. Y., to 15 years in prison for the death of his friend, Bünyamin Bozkurt. The incident occurred on March 19 in the İsmetpaşa neighborhood when the teenager was playing with a shotgun at his home.

During the incident, the weapon discharged, striking Bozkurt in the chest. Emergency services responded to the scene, but Bozkurt was pronounced dead. Following an investigation, the teenager was arrested, while his father and two other friends were released under judicial control.

In court, M. F. Y. testified that he was close friends with the deceased and did not intend to fire the weapon. Although the court initially sentenced him to life imprisonment for the crime of intentional killing of a child, the sentence was reduced to 15 years due to his age and good conduct provisions.
