Eskişehir honey production increases following drought relief

Following a two-year drought, regular spring rainfall in Eskişehir has led to an increase in both the volume and quality of honey production. Yılmaz Aşçı, President of the Eskişehir Beekeepers Association, noted that the region's diverse flora, which includes over 2,000 plant species, significantly enhances the flavor and aromatic properties of the honey.

Aşçı highlighted that the Sakarya Valley's geography, ranging from 200 to 1,800 meters in altitude, contributes to this high quality, which has earned international recognition in global competitions.

To combat counterfeit products, Aşçı warned consumers against using unscientific home tests, such as burning honey or testing it in water, calling these methods myths. He emphasized that true honey authenticity can only be confirmed through laboratory-based chemical, pollen, and sensory analyses.

Addressing rising production costs, the Association has recommended price ranges for the season: strained honey is suggested between 700 TL and 1,200 TL per kilogram, while the base price for honeycomb honey is set at 900 TL.
