Eskişehir imam recites Quran fluently despite daily stuttering
Veysel Karani Karaer, an acting imam at Yayla Mosque in the Şirintepe neighborhood of Eskişehir, has drawn local attention due to a unique distinction in his speech. While Karaer experiences stuttering during daily conversations and two-way dialogues, he is able to recite the Quran, perform prayers, and deliver Friday sermons without any hesitation or difficulty.
Karaer, who has served at the mosque for approximately three years, noted that his stuttering is not congenital but began following the death of his grandfather, Musa Karaer. He expressed gratitude for his grandfather’s influence in teaching him to read and write and for fostering his interest in religious service.
Despite facing skepticism from some citizens who suspect he is imitating his speech patterns, Karaer maintains that his ability to recite fluently during formal religious duties is a gift. He stated, “I see stuttering as a gift that Allah has given me,” and clarified that he faces no issues when reading sermons or delivering lectures.
