Ayşe Ünlüce elected Vice President of Union of Municipalities of Turkey
Ayşe Ünlüce, the Mayor of Eskişehir, has been elected as the Vice President of the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) following a four-round voting process in Ankara. The election was held to fill the vacancy left by TBB President Vahap Seçer, who was removed from office and arrested.
In the final round of voting, Ünlüce, representing the YENİ Party and supported by the CHP, received 417 votes. Her opponent, Tahir Büyükakın, the Mayor of Kocaeli and candidate for the Cumhur İttifakı, received 369 votes. The election process spanned four rounds because neither candidate could secure the required two-thirds majority in the initial rounds.
Following her victory, Ünlüce pledged to serve all municipalities equally and fairly until Vahap Seçer returns to his position. The election took place at the InterContinental Grand Ankara Hotel and included discussions regarding the democratic integrity of the process.
