Eskişehir official warns of fire risk from roadside vegetation

In Eskişehir, Turkey, local officials are warning of an increased fire risk due to overgrown and dried vegetation along the road connecting the Kızılinler and Kalabak neighborhoods. The road serves as a major route for numerous villages connecting to the city and experiences heavy vehicle traffic.

İbrahim Can, the Muhtar of Kızılinler, stated that the grass has grown to over 50 centimeters and has become highly flammable as temperatures rise. He warned that a single spark, such as a discarded cigarette butt or a glass bottle from a passing vehicle, could trigger a disaster, especially given the proximity to forested areas.

Can has called upon the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality and the Forestry Regional Directorate to conduct cleaning operations using graders to mitigate the danger. While the main road falls under the municipality's jurisdiction and the surrounding forests are managed by the Forestry Regional Directorate, local residents are seeking urgent maintenance to prevent a potential wildfire.
