Eskişehir plans metrobüs system and parking expansion

Eskişehir is addressing growing urban mobility and infrastructure challenges driven by a rising population and increasing vehicle numbers. To manage high passenger demand, particularly between industrial zones and university campuses, authorities are discussing the implementation of a metrobüs system. This high-capacity transit model is intended to operate on dedicated lanes to bypass traffic, potentially integrating with existing ESTRAM tram lines and bus networks.

Simultaneously, the city is grappling with a significant parking shortage as the number of registered vehicles has surpassed 407,000. The rapid increase in automobiles, motorcycles, and light commercial vehicles has led to congestion and street parking issues in densely populated areas. In response, the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality is working to expand parking capacity, aiming to add 667 new open parking spaces through various projects across locations such as Akarbaşı, Kanlıkavak, and near the Vecihi Hürkuş Aviation Museum.
