Eskişehir prepares for new school year with aid and rising costs
As the 2026-2027 academic year approaches, Eskişehir is preparing for the return to school through both municipal support and retail preparations. The Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality has launched a project to distribute free stationery sets to primary and middle school students in 12 rural districts. Led by the Social Services Department, the initiative aims to meet educational needs and alleviate the financial burden on families. Distributions are scheduled across various locations, including Sarıcakaya, Mihalgazi, Günyüzü, and Çifteler, through late August and early September.
In the retail sector, local merchants are preparing for the seasonal surge in demand. Ümit Altın, Vice President of the Eskişehir Haberdashery and Street Vendors Chamber, reported that school uniform prices have increased by 10% to 20% compared to last year. A four-piece set for primary or middle school students is expected to cost between 2,000 and 2,100 TL. Individual items, such as t-shirts and trousers, are priced between 400 and 500 TL, while winter coats start at approximately 750 TL.
