Eskişehir protesters denounce illegal school registration fees

Members of the Eskişehir People's Representatives Assembly (THTM) held a press demonstration in front of Melahat Ünügür Middle School to protest the collection of illegal registration fees in public schools.

Pınar İnselöz, a representative of the Teacher Initiative, stated that while the Ministry of National Education prohibits registration fees, the ministry is consciously ignoring the practice. Protesters argued that schools are being categorized into 'qualified' and 'unqualified' tiers, forcing parents to pay under the guise of 'donations' to ensure better conditions for their children.

Inselöz criticized the commercialization of education, noting that basic needs like cleanliness and security are becoming dependent on the amount of money paid. The demonstration also highlighted economic pressures, citing Kamu-İş data that places the hunger limit above 38,000 TL and the poverty limit above 121,000 TL.
