Eskişehir releases tracked black vulture for wildlife study

A black vulture that has completed medical treatment and rehabilitation has been released into the wild in the Muttalip region of Eskişehir, Turkey. As part of a scientific wildlife conservation project, the bird has been fitted with a satellite tracking device to monitor its movements.

The project is a collaborative effort involving the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Zoo, the Kuzey Doğa Association, Koç University, and the University of Utah. This marks the first time a black vulture has been included in these satellite tracking studies in the region, following previous work conducted on smaller vulture species.

Researchers aim to use the satellite data to identify the bird's daily movement patterns, feeding and resting areas, breeding grounds, and migratory routes. The data collected is expected to provide deeper insights into the species' lifestyle and the specific habitats they utilize in the wild.
