Eskişehir repairman highlights challenges in electric vehicle maintenance
İsmail Yücel, a 66-year-old technician in Eskişehir, Turkey, has raised concerns regarding the increasing difficulty of repairing new-generation electric bicycles and scooters.
Yücel noted that modern electric vehicles feature highly interdependent components, such as the electronic brain, display panel, and motor. Unlike older models where single parts could be replaced, modern systems often require entire sets of components to be replaced simultaneously to avoid system errors, significantly increasing repair costs.
Technical issues with charging equipment also pose a risk; if a charger fails to cut off electricity once a battery is full, the batteries can swell and become unusable. Furthermore, Yücel highlighted difficulties in sourcing spare parts due to import restrictions, which he claims drives up market prices. He called for the easing of spare part imports and better technical training for authorized service providers to improve service quality and affordability.
