Turkey retail sector sees winter surge in wool, leather, and footwear
As temperatures drop across Turkey, the retail sector is seeing a significant surge in demand for winter apparel, including wool products, leather jackets, and specialized footwear.
In the wool and thermal goods market, consumers are increasingly seeking camel wool and angora rabbit wool for their heat retention properties. Camel wool products are priced between 1,000 and 3,000 TL, while angora rabbit wool items cost approximately 1,500 TL. Thermal wear starts at 250 TL, and cotton products begin at 400 TL. Vendors note that thin thermal layers are particularly popular among youth and for children's clothing.
The leather jacket market is also active, with prices ranging from 4,000 to 8,000 TL. Retailers attribute rising costs to expensive raw materials and the shortage of skilled craftsmen. Despite these costs, demand remains steady from consumers looking for long-lasting garments.
In Eskişehir, the footwear sector has seen an early seasonal opening. Consumers are prioritizing waterproof and insulated boots, with parachute fabric models and fleece-lined options being highly sought after. Additionally, local haberdasheries and tailors report increased business due to a rise in zipper sales and garment repairs as residents prepare their winter wardrobes.
