Eskişehir retirees demand higher pensions amid rising living costs

Union leaders in Eskişehir warned that retirees are increasingly unable to meet basic needs. DISK Dev Emekli‑Sen Eskişehir branch head Hatice Kılıç described how pensioners struggle to afford rent, medication, utilities and even food, noting that many must seek a second job or assistance.

Tüm Emeklilerin Sendikası branch chief Ali Paşa Şanlı echoed these concerns, stating that millions of retirees live below the poverty line and that recent deductions from pension payments and the collection of old debts exacerbate their hardship. Both leaders called for the pension system to protect retirees rather than serve as a revenue source, urging the government and parliament to raise pension amounts and halt punitive deductions.
