Zonguldak seasonal workers face harassment in Alaplı
Seasonal agricultural workers from Şırnak were subjected to verbal and physical harassment in Bektaşlı village, Alaplı district of Zonguldak. The incident reportedly began as a dispute between children over discarded seed shells at a village water fountain, which subsequently escalated into a conflict involving families.
While some reports and social media footage suggest the incident was an ethnically motivated attack against Kurdish workers, the Zonguldak Governor's Office and Justice Minister Akın Gürlek have characterized the event as a “münferit anlaşmazlık” (isolated dispute) between two families. Authorities stated that no physical injuries were reported, though workers and their children experienced significant distress during a second incident where a vehicle was pelted with stones while under gendarmerie protection.
A judicial investigation has been launched by the Karadeniz Ereğli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Political figures and legal organizations, including the Mersin Bar Association and DEM Party representatives, have called for a thorough investigation to ensure the safety of seasonal workers and to prevent discriminatory practices.
