Eskişehir senior avoided 1.5 million‑lira loss after jewelry shop halted gold scam

An elderly man in Eskişehir’s Odunpazarı district was previously swindled out of 470,000 TL by phone scammers who pretended to be police officers. Later, he visited a jewelry shop to exchange gold worth about 1 million TL for cash.

Shop staff noticed his hurried and suspicious behavior, asked why he needed to sell the gold so quickly, and learned that the scammers were demanding money over the phone. The employees immediately notified police, who arrived on scene and prevented the man from handing over the gold, averting a potential total loss of roughly 1.5 million TL. Police have launched a broad investigation into the fraudsters.
