Eskişehir Simit Tops Turkey’s Best Simit Rankings

A study commissioned by TÜRKPATENT examined Turkey’s regional simits using geographic‑indication records, official recipes and consumer feedback. Eight varieties were scored on ten criteria, each out of 100 points.

Eskişehir simit achieved the highest total with 91 points, followed by Antakya (90), İzmir gevreği (89.5), and Ankara and Istanbul simits tied at 88. İzmit, Samsun and Rize completed the top eight.

The report also highlighted distinctive traits: Eskişehir was deemed “most balanced,” Antakya “most unconventional,” İzmir “most crisp,” Ankara “most intense flavor,” and Istanbul “strongest cultural symbol.” Additional rankings covered recipe originality, production technique, mastery sensitivity and external crispness, with İzmir gevreği and Rize simit sharing top marks in production technique and crispness.
