Eskişehir teacher candidates complete STEAM-based special education program
A five-day intensive program titled ‘STEAM-Based Discovery and Design Adventure for Special Education Teacher Candidates’ has concluded in Eskişehir, Turkey. Managed by the Odunpazarı District Directorate of National Education, the project was conducted under the TÜBİTAK 4008 program for inclusive community applications for individuals with special needs.
The initiative was a collaborative effort between Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Anadolu University, and the Emine Emir Şahbaz Science and Art Center. Sixteen teacher candidates from the special education departments of Anadolu and Eskişehir Osmangazi Universities participated in the program held between October 5 and 9, 2026.
The curriculum integrated science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) through various specialized themes, including Inclusive STEAM (Kapa-STEAM), Astronomy (Astro-STEAM), Nature (Yeşil-STEAM), Technology (Tekno-STEAM), and Art (Sana-STEAM). Participants engaged in hands-on workshops focusing on design-oriented thinking, project-based learning, and the use of artificial intelligence-supported teaching tools. The program aimed to equip future educators with the skills to develop accessible, sustainable, and inclusive learning environments and original educational materials tailored to different disability groups.
