Esmeraldas Refinery reaches 86% operational capacity
The Esmeraldas Refinery in Ecuador has reached 86% operational capacity following the completion of scheduled maintenance on its Crude 2 and Vacuum 2 (CDU2/VDU2) units. State-owned Petroecuador reported that the facility is now producing 90,000 barrels of derivatives per day.
The maintenance was conducted during a planned technical shutdown to strengthen the safety and reliability of the equipment. These specialized works included cleaning, inspection, repair, and assembly to prevent component deterioration and mitigate operational risks. The maintenance follows damage sustained during a fire on June 3.
Petroecuador stated that these preventive measures are part of a broader strategy applied across the Esmeraldas, La Libertad, and Shushufindi refineries to ensure a steady supply of fuel for the country's productive sectors and citizens.
