Germany issues multiple food safety recalls and health warnings
Multiple food safety recalls and health warnings have been issued across Germany and surrounding regions.
In Germany, several major brands are facing recalls. ESN (Fitmart GmbH & Co. KG) has issued a near-nationwide recall for its ‘Designer Protein Bar Dark Chocolate Salted Almond’ due to the discovery of hard, transparent plastic fragments that pose a risk of injury or choking. Additionally, Arla Foods has recalled three varieties of decorated cream cheese (Castello, Milsani, and Viking) due to potential insect contamination in a supplier's almond mix. Dinkelhof is recalling ‘Dinkel Sombrelli mit Wildkräutern’ pasta following the detection of Salmonella in wild herbs.
Consumer protection agencies have also issued warnings regarding specific dietary habits and other products. Baby foods from Beba, Aptamil, and Milumil sold at Kaufland are being recalled due to excessive cereulide levels, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Furthermore, laboratory tests by authorities in Baden-Württemberg revealed that homemade potato skin chips prepared in air fryers contain acrylamide levels more than 20 times the European limit, a substance classified as a probable carcinogen.
In a separate incident, Danforel A/S has recalled Nautica brand trout fillets sold at Lidl due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Ulrich Walter GmbH has also recalled three batches of Lebensbaum brand dried savory (Bohnenkraut) due to the presence of potentially toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids.
