ESO manages power restoration and compensation after Lithuanian storm
Following a severe storm, the Lithuanian electricity distribution operator, ESO, is managing extensive network repairs and customer compensation processes. Restoration efforts are underway, with electricity already returned to over 90 percent of affected customers. However, approximately 17,000 customers or objects remain without power.
Financial estimates for the recovery are significant. The restoration of the electricity network is expected to cost around 10 million euros. Additionally, approximately 5 million euros are earmarked for statutory compensations to customers whose service was interrupted for more than 72 hours. ESO has also proactively allocated an additional 2 million euros to cover direct losses, such as food spoilage or generator costs.
While statutory compensations for service delays will be calculated automatically by ESO, customers can apply for direct loss compensation starting in September. There is a maximum cap of 220 euros for certain direct loss claims. The Ministry of Finance has instructed Ignitis Group to develop a plan to increase the resilience of the electricity distribution network against future extreme weather events.
