ESOGÜ Hospital faces earthquake safety concerns in Eskişehir

The Health and Social Service Workers Union (SES) Eskişehir branch has issued an urgent call regarding the earthquake safety of the Eskişehir Osmangazi University (ESOGÜ) Hospital. Following earthquake performance analyses conducted in 2023, it was determined that certain sections of the clinical building require structural reinforcement.

SES Co-Chair Berna Yıldız stated that despite the issue being raised multiple times in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and through various inquiries to the Ministry, no actual reinforcement work has commenced. While there have been discussions regarding the construction of a new hospital, Yıldız emphasized that building a new facility is not a substitute for securing the current one, as the existing hospital must remain operational until a replacement is completed.

University officials previously indicated that reinforcement might be difficult to perform while hospital services are active, leading to discussions about a gradual transition to a new facility. However, the union notes that there is currently no clear timeline for when a new hospital would be ready for service, leaving the safety of the current building and its patients in a state of uncertainty.
