Peru government may use emergency decrees for police funding
The government of President Keiko Fujimori is considering the use of emergency and supreme decrees to bolster the National Police (PNP) in the fight against crime, should Congress refuse to grant requested legislative powers.
Minister Marco Vinelli stated that the executive branch will continue to allocate resources for intelligence, weaponry, and police equipment through these legal mechanisms, which do not require prior parliamentary authorization regarding economic and financial matters. This potential move follows suggestions from political leaders, such as Rafael López Aliaga of Renovación Popular, to expedite security purchases without waiting for legislative procedures.
