Espaillat siblings charged with negligence in Jet Set collapse

The Dominican Republic's Public Ministry has formally charged Antonio and Maribel Espaillat with involuntary manslaughter and systematic negligence following the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub roof. The prosecution alleges that the defendants ordered structural modifications to the venue to increase profits, despite consciously raising safety risks.

The tragedy resulted in 236 deaths and left more than 180 people injured. Wilson Camacho, head of the General Directorate of Prosecution, stated that the disaster could have been avoided if the administration had corrected known dangerous conditions. The prosecution is seeking a conviction, noting that the structural weight of the negligence surpassed the capacity of the roof.
