Espaillat siblings' defense denies bankruptcy amid nightclub collapse trial

Legal defense for Antonio and Maribel Espaillat has denied reports that the siblings have entered into any bankruptcy, restructuring, or liquidation proceedings. Lawyers stated there is no judicial record to support such claims and challenged those spreading the information to provide evidence of any such filing.

The defense also clarified their appeal regarding a court resolution. They are not seeking to reduce or eliminate the RD$500 million economic guarantee imposed by the court. Instead, they are requesting to substitute current conservatory measures on their assets with a bond issued by an insurance company for the same amount. This bond would serve to guarantee potential reparations and legal costs.

The legal proceedings stem from the collapse of the Jet Set nightclub, a tragedy that resulted in 236 deaths and over 180 injuries. The trial, which involves extensive testimonial, expert, and documentary evidence, is scheduled to continue on September 4 following a recess by Judge Franny González Castillo.
