Espanyol striker Kike García undergoes successful knee surgery
Espanyol forward Kike García suffered a severe injury during a pre‑season friendly against Middlesbrough FC at the Riverside Stadium, sustaining a rupture of the right biceps femoral tendon. He was forced to leave the match in the 18th minute and later underwent surgery, which was reported as successful. The club expects a recovery period of four to six months, meaning García will miss the start of the La Liga season.
His absence creates a tactical challenge for Espanyol, with manager Manuel González likely to rely on other forwards such as Roberto Fernández and Marcos Fernández for the opening fixtures. Levante UD, the opponent for Espanyol’s league debut, will face a weakened attacking side.
The injury and operation were confirmed by the club, and García will now begin a rehabilitation program before returning to training.
