Espigas celebrates 116th anniversary with community festivities

The rural town of Espigas celebrated its 116th anniversary with a series of community events, including a mass at Santo Domingo de Guzmán parish and a protocol ceremony at San Martín Square. The festivities featured a popular lunch at the Club Social y Deportivo Espigas, musical performances, and various local recognitions.

During the ceremony, Mayor Maximiliano Wesner and Chief of Staff Mercedes Landivar presented the symbolic key to the town to Elsa Tomasa Alderete, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Other honors were bestowed upon José Rufino Suárez and Etelvina Irma Escarza as “Escoltas del Pueblo,” as well as representatives from “Espigas en Acción” and municipal delegate Nancy Suárez. The Bolívar Volunteer Firefighters were also recognized for their ongoing assistance and prevention efforts in the locality.

In his address, Mayor Wesner emphasized the event as a moment of reunion for natives living in surrounding areas like Tapalqué, Bolívar, and Olavarría, noting the deep connection residents maintain with their origins in Espigas.
