ESPN retains laid‑off veteran Karl Ravech for MLB and Little League broadcasts
Karl Ravech, a longtime ESPN broadcaster with 33 years at the network, was among more than ten staff members laid off in July 2026. ESPN offered him the option to continue working on‑air assignments during the baseball season, and he accepted. Ravech returned to the broadcast booth on July 30, 2026 to call the Washington Nationals–Atlanta Braves game, and he is slated to call a New York Yankees‑Seattle Mariners matchup on August 12. He will also serve as the lead voice for ESPN’s coverage of the Little League World Series, which runs from early to late August.
The network’s layoffs also affected other talent such as NFL analyst Ryan Clark, but Ravech’s continued presence is unusual because the layoff occurred mid‑season. ESPN no longer holds Sunday Night Baseball rights, which moved to NBC, yet it retains a limited slate of MLB games that Ravech will call throughout the summer.
