ESPN is implementing a major round of layoffs tied to its recent acquisition of NFL Network. The cuts affect a number of on‑air personalities, most notably former NFL safety and analyst Ryan Clark, who was informed of his termination while appearing on the live “NFL Live” broadcast. Clark, who earned more than $2 million a year and was slated for a role in ESPN’s upcoming Super Bowl coverage, learned of the decision during a commercial break after executives feared the news would leak on social media.

Other veterans also lost their jobs, including longtime baseball broadcaster Karl Ravech, NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, SportsCenter anchor David Lloyd, and several analysts and writers. ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro cited the integration of NFL assets and resulting redundancies as the primary reason for the job impacts. Reports suggest that Clark’s on‑air clash with colleague Peter Schrager and other controversies may have accelerated his departure.

The layoffs reflect Disney’s effort to streamline operations after the NFL Network purchase, with dozens of positions across the network being eliminated.
