Esports World Cup announces 2027 global qualifier program
The Esports Foundation has launched the 2027 EWC Qualifier Program, a new initiative under the ‘Road to EWC’ framework designed to expand global qualifying pathways for the Esports World Cup. The program aims to engage approximately 1.8 million players through more than 400 events in 2027.
The initiative introduces two distinct routes for participation. The ‘EWC Direct Qualifiers’ route allows established tournament organizers to integrate their existing competitions into the official pathway while maintaining their own brand and commercial opportunities. The ‘EWC Satellite Last Chance Qualifiers’ (SLCQs) route is designed for grassroots participation, targeting local organizers, universities, cyber cafes, and gaming festivals.
Initial SLCQ titles include Chess, Counter-Strike 2, FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, and Street Fighter 6, with more titles expected to be added. The Esports Foundation will provide marketing support for these satellite events, and winners will receive guaranteed entry into the EWC Last Chance Qualifiers the following summer, along with assistance for visas and accommodation.
